About

Hey, I’m Matt.

I’m a future teacher, a cancer survivor, a dad, and a lifelong student of what it means to live with empathy in loud times. I created The Quiet Middle as a space for reflection—on the moments that change us, the issues that shape us, and the conversations we often avoid because they’re hard. But hard doesn’t mean impossible. And silence doesn’t mean peace.

I write from Northwest Georgia, where life, faith, community, and contradiction all intersect. I’ve experienced my share of battles, but I believe in showing up with kindness anyway. Here, I try to write things that are true—not because I have all the answers, but because I believe in the power of honest questions asked in good faith.

You won’t find shouting here. But you will find stories, thoughts, and reflections—rooted in experience, offered with care, and open to dialogue.

I was recently featured on the Emory Winship Cancer Institute website with my story on surviving head and neck cancer. Please check out: Finding gratitude after a life-changing diagnosis
